Supporting the Next Generation

50% Entry Subsidy for Youth Teams at the Merrell Summer Challenge

Jodie and Nathan Fa’avae, the team behind the Merrell Summer Challenge women’s adventure race, are deeply committed to developing youth pathways into the sport of adventure racing. Their passion lies not only in creating an unforgettable event experience but also in encouraging young women to get active in the outdoors. As a demonstration of this commitment, their company will be subsidising entry fees for school and youth teams in the 2026 event, offering a 50% discount off the normal entry fee. This initiative is designed to remove financial barriers and other obstacles, making the sport more accessible and achievable for the next generation of female adventurers.

“We see these young women as the future of the sport, and of course, the future of the event, so it's important to us that as many young women as possible have the opportunity to enjoy and explore the benefits and rewards that come from such an event experience,” says Jodie.

Both Jodie and Nathan are highly qualified outdoor educators with decades of experience inspiring people through outdoor pursuits. Jodie, in particular, has played a leading role in developing youth initiatives in adventure racing, especially through her work with Motueka High School. Her efforts have opened doors for countless young people to experience the thrill, challenge, and empowerment that comes with adventure racing.
